The photo above shows that Acquired Brain Injuries are not only for the regular everyday Jo!!!

Can you imagine your life going on as an exciting, vibrant, smooth adventure? Then, in a blink of an eye everything comes to a screeching halt. This is a reality for thousands of Ontarians and Canadians alike. The traumatization of a traffic accident, sports related incidents, crippling strokes, aneurysms, brain tumors and illnesses such as meningitis, encephalitis and oxygen deprivation.

What to look for:

  • Poor concentration
  • Memory problems-especially with new information
  •  Dizziness, light-headed feeling
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Difficulty processing information (even though intelligence remains intact)
  • Visual, speech and hearing disturbances
  • Reduced initiative
  • Socially inappropriate behavior
  • Impulsivity
  • Irritability and mood volatility
  • Emotional / behavioral outbursts
  • Persistent or recurring headaches

While most impairments as a result of ABI diminish after a period of healing, some injuries however, are  long- term and can last forever.
